Description

Once upon a time, in rainy season, when people about to transplant the rice seedings. Every family was out ploughing the field and preparing it for rice farming and one of those family was a fatherless man. One day he went farming until noon, he felt more exhausted and starved than usual. Usually, his mother brought him a lunch box every day, but on that day, she was so late. He stopped ploughing the field, rest under the tree, and let his buffalo find some grass to eat. He kept looking at the direction of his home anxiously waiting for his mother to deliver the lunch box. The more heat from the sun, the more he became hungry. 
     Then, he saw his mother carrying a small lunch box and walking along the farm dike. He was very upset because she was late. Feeling hungry, tired and angry, he thought that the food won’t be enough for him. He accused her, “What kept you so late, old woman?  And why do you bring me such a small lunch box? Do you think this will be enough for me?”. The mother answered her son, “Even it is a small box, but I stuffed it with a lot of rice. Please take a look first”. However, due to his starvation, tiredness and anger, he listened to nothing. He was furious and grabbed a piece of wood and hit his mother, she fell. Then, he walked away and had his meal. After he was full, he realized that there was still rice left in the box. He felt guilty, so he rushed to see his mother. He saw his mother lying still, dead. He hugged her dead body and cried his heart out, he realized he killed his mother by temper. 
     After his mother’s funeral, he bagged and invited people to build a stupa to keep his mother’s ashes and named it ‘ Phratat Kongkhao Noi  Kha Mae’ or ‘The stupa of a small Box of Rice’.
